In the midst of multicultural Luton is a vibrant Roma community estimated to be at least 3,000 in size.  Luton Roma Trust was established as a charity in 2015 and since then has been reaching out to these economic migrants who have migrated from Romania and Bulgaria in recent years. Our interventions are holistic, covering every area of life. Our partnerships with local schools aim at enhancing the educational experience of the Roma children.

Many Roma in Luton are often digitally excluded and many members of the community do not speak English. That is why we are looking for a Project Assistant for eight weeks to help our external consultants carry out an evaluation of Luton Roma Trust’s services. The Project Assistant will collect data in connection to the services offered by Luton Roma Trust to its beneficiaries, which, will be subsequently, analysed and included in a final evaluation report. 

The role:

  • You will identify, meet and discuss with the Roma beneficiaries with the scope of collecting data in relation to Luton Roma Trust’s services
  • You will assist the external evaluators by conducting interviews with the Roma beneficiaries and help them fill in questionnaires
  • You will assist the external evaluators by offering translation support  (from Romanian/Romani into English) whenever they engage with non-English speakers in the community
  • You will assist with identifying potential participants for the one-to-one interviews and focus groups
  • You will assist with any other type of support, whenever required
  • A qualification/degree in Social Sciences
  • Romanian speaker
  • Be a freelance and provide Luton Roma Trust with an UTR number
  • Live in Luton or another area within easy reach
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and work effectively at all levels
  • High level of accuracy in all work
  • Demonstrable ability to work independently
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to handle confidential Information
  • Highly organised, with ability to plan, multitask and prioritise work under pressure
  • Pro-active and striving to achieve excellence in his/her work
  • Work ethic skills

Essential Requirements:

  • A qualification/degree in Social Sciences
  • Romanian speaker

Pay and Conditions

  • The Project Assistant will work two days a week for eight weeks. In total we expect that the Project Assistant will work 128 hours
  • The rate of pay is £ 14.00/hour including all taxes
  • Reasonable expenses in connection with work in Luton will be paid.
